DDC Bandipora inaugurates provincial level inter-distt sports competition

Bandipora: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza on Monday inaugurated the provincial level inter-district sports competition at Bandipora.
The competition was organised by District Youth Services and Sports.
As many as 1000 students from all age groups including boys and girls from across the state are participating in the sports activities including Throwball, Handball and kickboxing. Four matches were played on the day-one in Under-17 and Under 19 Category. The tourney will continue till 20th of this month.
On the occasion, DDC Bandipora called upon the youth especially girls to vigorously participate in sports and athletic activities apart from pursuing their academic and curricular activities. He said the youth of Bandipora are performing well in sports activities and have earned laurels for the district at national and international level. He said the district has produced some of the popular sportspersons including young kickboxing champion Tajamul Islam while youngsters have also shown extraordinary interest in several other sports activities including football.
DDC said the administration is putting all possible efforts to support and channelize the talent of the youth in the right directions. He said the sports infrastructure is being developed in every village of the district and during the recent ‘Back to Village’ program numerous playground were either inaugurated or foundations were laid for providing an opportunity for the youth to channelize their energy. He said keeping in view the interest of the youngsters in sports, the administration is duty-bound to provide opportunities to the youngsters and for the same sports infrastructure is being developed on a large scale. He said recently flood lights have been installed in SK Stadium Bandipora and soon day-night matches will be played at the stadium that will be the new attraction for the sports-loving people of the district.
On the occasion Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad said the aim of conducting the tournament is to highlight the hidden talent of the youth of the district and to give recognition to them at national and international level.
