Jammu : The Sericulture Development Department Monday kick-started 15-day training-cum-skill up-gradation programme for farmers belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories here.
The training programme was inaugurated by Reyaz Ahmed Wani, Director Sericulture, in presence of Dr. O.P Gadgala, Scientist-D Central Silk Board, Jammu, Ashwani Sharma, Development Officer, Rajouri, Anju Koul, District Sericulture Officer, Jammu/Samba, and Mushtaq Reshi, District Sericulture Officer, Udhampur/Reasi.
Addressing the gathering, Director Sericulture said silkworm rearing activities were directly related to socio-economic uplift of cross sections of people especially the weaker and downtrodden.
He said concerted efforts were being made to give impetus to the sericulture activities with the aim of enhancing the livelihood opportunities and guaranteed high returns to the people associated with the sericulture sector.
He said the Sericulture Department is giving much focus to addressing the field problems of the farmers and there is a need to fully train the farmers with latest techniques for increasing cocoon production.
Wani impressed upon the farmers to acquaint themselves with the latest practices in the field and interact with the experts to avail maximum benefit from the training programme.
