Srinagar: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference today demanded that assembly elections to the state legislature should not be conducted by the Election Commission until Panchayat system is not fully empowered.
Talking to reporters Anil Sharma, president of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference said that home minister Amit Shah and State Governor Satyapal Malik assured the Panchayat delegation yesterday that the centre government will storngly implement the panchayat Raj system and will fulfill rest of the demands of Panchayat representatives.
He said that elected representatives have weakened the Panchayat system in the state and they don’t want its empowerment.
Shama said that governor should implement the 73rd amendment act to strengthen the panchayat system.
He also demanded that compensation should be paid to the families of those panchayat members who were killed in the last many years in militancy related incidents.
