Srinagar: Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was on Saturday put under house arrest in Srinagar, official sources said.
However, it was not immediately clear why restrictions were imposed on Mirwaiz, they said.
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the HC said that state police and CRPF personnel had been deployed outside the Nigeen house of Mirwaiz today.
Later, they said, Mirwaiz was informed that he cannot leave till further orders since he has been put under house arrest. However, no reasons were given for putting him under house arrest, he added.
