New Delhi/ June,20 : The Central Government on Thursday tabled the Jammu and Kashmir (Reservation) Ordinance in the Rajya Sabha . The ordinance paves the way for bringing people living along the International Border on a par with those living under the Actual Line of Control. This comes in the wake of 10% reservation for economically weaker sections that was made applicable in J&K also, allowing reservations for the youth of J&K, who are from economically weaker sections, in State Government jobs.
With President Ram Nath Kovinf wrapping up his joint address to both Houses of Parliament, on Thursday, the 249th Rajya Sabha convened under the ongoing Budget session of Parliament.
While the Upper House saw full attendance from the newly elected BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government, the Opposition bench saw prominent members such as senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram absent from the session.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Cabinet to the House, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan tabled 10 Ordinances including the Jammu and Kashmir (Reservation) Ordinance in the Rajya Sabha, which were previously awaiting passage in the Upper House.
