Amit Shah’s invective remark on cricket contest

Painting the colour of war against Pakistan even to a cricket match won by India at Machester in England is unbecoming of a home minister of a country who perhaps has to be reminded that Sportsman spirit is the act of accepting one’s success with humility as generating this kind of sentiments helps us to cope up with the failures and disappointments that come our way and make renewed and challenging efforts to achieve success next time. Unfortunately calling victory of India over Pakistan in a cricket match a “surgical strike” the military operation carried out by India against Pakistan is against the very idea of sportsman spirit prompting one to accept the success with humility. Instead of making a provocative remark on the victory of India over Pakistan the Home Minister could have said that life is full of failures and successes and more in case of sports contests where one side wins and the other side looses. Knowing a provocative remark in a hostile diplomatic atmosphere won’t generate the emotions of friendship and cooperation the Home Minister in his message of felicitation to his country’s wining team could have said “ well done boys but develop the way to concentrate and try to win the next game to carry forward your struggle to clinch the world cup tournament” as such remark boost the morale of the players and the loosing side also learns to accept defeat gracefully. If we curse the opponent, others will curs us the next day when maybe we loose a match against another country in the ongoing world cup tournament.
We have to remember provocations never make an individual or a team to progress in any field and more so in the field of sport. Even naives won’t dispute the reality that for as many victories as you hope to have, you must be prepared to lose too, if not today, but tomorrow. International sporting contests have proved it again and again that by raising standards early, an athlete can both give and expect mutual respect during their course of competition and so better to look up to a sportsperson not because he is good at the games but because he is a good person. After all better if we hold ourselves to a higher standards in responses to responses to situations developing in the aftermath of victory or success in any field and more is in sports field.
