Srinagar/June,17 : Two militants were killed and three soldiers, including an Army officer, injured Monday in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.
A police official said “acting on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Achabal area of the south Kashmir district, the government forces on Monday morning launched a cordon and search operation in the area but when the forces moved towards the location where the militants were hiding, they fired upon forces personnel who retaliated triggering an exchange of fire during which two militants are feared killed and three army men including an officer injured “. He said while bodies of two militants were found near the gunfight site,the three injured army men have been shifted to a hospital and some militants were still engaged in the ensuing gunfight, but the operation is still underway, adding that ” identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained” . The authorities have suspended mobile internet services in the area as a precautionary measure and the people have been asked not to move towards the gunfight site till the explosive material if any found in the area is cleared.
