Srinagar,/Jun 16 : Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information Foundation (J&K RTI Foundation) has congratulated Jammu & Kashmir Bank’s Board of Directors especially the Chairman and J&K Government for finally bringing J&K Bank under the ambit of J&K RTI Act 2009.
“RTI Activists and in fact whole Jammu and Kashmir is happy on the long pending demand towards transparency. We thank and appreciate the role of Governor and especially Chief Secretary in ensuring transparency and accountability in Jammu and Kashmir Bank by playing a key role in declaring JK Bank a public authority which led to the implementation of RTI Law in the Bank”, said Chairman of J&K RTI Foundation Er. Irfan Banka in his statement.
He also said that bringing JK Bank under RTI ambit was a dream and we thank the interim Chairman of J&K Bank R K Chibber for deciding in the BoD meeting to implement RTI law in JK Bank in letter and spirit.
“Contribution of State Information Commissioner, Activists, some lawyers and present Government in bringing JK Bank under RTI Act is highly appreciable and we hope the law will be implemented in JK Bank in best possible way. Being a grooming institution of the state, we are ready to provide any kind of assistance to the Bank for implementation of RTI Law. Bank has the best source i.e. CSR to implement the RTI law and achieve public trust through transparency. It could be an example for other institutions of the state”, said Er. Irfan Banka
The lesson that we learnt from the implementation of these various legislations were indeed helpful. However progress on the part of public authorities towards effective implementation of the Act in Right earnest and the use by the people as an instrument for pressing transparency and accountability of public bodies / officials will be the true indicator of the success of the Act said Sheikh Maqbool who is vice chairman and chief spokesperson of J&K RTI Foundation
“We at the same time ask the Governor to disclose why he remained silent since November last year when the Bank was declared a Public Authority? We also appeal people not to make the bank get disturbed by unnecessary RTI’s and make a genuine use of the law only sheikh added
