SMC launches sanitation, anti-encroachment drives in Srinagar parts

Srinagar/ June,15: A special sanitation drive and anti encroachment drive was conducted today by SMC at entire stretch of Bye Pass and  Sanat Nagar  Chowk.. Commissioner SMC Khurshid Ahmed Sanai who personally monitored the drive was accompanied by Chief Enforcement Officer ,Chief Sanitation Officer and concerned Ward Officers. During the drive street vendors and shopkeepers encroaching upon public space by displaying goods outside thier shop were removed. Also the identified spots along the enitre stretch of Byepass and around sanat nagar chowk  have been well sanitised. A fifteen day special target sanitation program an initiative by SMC in Collaboration with IEC partners, was kick started today here at SMC central office Karan Nagar.

The drive  was kickstarted in presence of Chief Sanitation officer Syed Nisar and other senior Municipal Officers.Students from different schools including cassette school, modern Public School, Government Girls higher secondary karan nagar also participated in the function.Students on the occassion  also delivered speeches on safeguarding environment,waste segregation, ill effects of polythene etc. Later rallies were organised from SMC office in which students and SMC officials held  placards and banners with a motivation to sensitise public thier role in keeping environment healthy and clean
Commissioner SMC Mr Khurshid Ahmad Sanai in his message said that aim of such programs is   to bring about a permanent behavioural change among the citizens of city by encouraging them to change their habits and keep the city litter free. Chief Sanitation Officer Syed Nisar  said that Public in general and house holds in particular are requested not to throw any kind of waste outside thier houses, road side spaces,waterbodies and also refrain from throwing garbage on the embankments of rivers. “We will soon launch more such initiatives  and will engage new generation in state wide cleanliness missions to develop a positive sense and attitude in students” said Shiekh Ahsaan Ellahi, Project Manager IEC.
