2 women among 3 killed as trees fall on them in separate places in Kashmir

Srinagar : The heavy rains and overnight wind from late Tuesday evening has caused fresh floods in several areas in the Valley while as three persons including two women were killed in separate tree falling incidents. A 40-year-old man died while his two relatives were injured when a tree fell on the tent in wake of the high speed winds and rains in Ramwari area of Gund in Ganderbal district
Reports said that a Bakarwal family had erected a tent at Ramwari belt of Gund in Ganderbal area which came under heavy rains and winds at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday. Official sources confirmed the death of a nomad and identified the deceased as Mohammad Yousuf Kalada son of Abdul Gani Kalada of Rajouri. He also identified two injured persons as Ghulam Haider and Abdul Lateef, son of Mahmood, both residents of Rajouri.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident two women died when a tree fell on them at Chandaji area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Sources identified deceased as Shariefa Begum and Mubeena Begum of Chandaji village. Both the women were on the way to nearby forest area when a tree uprooted by winds fell on them.
Meanwhile, flood like situation was also reported from several areas including villages of Budgam including Baghe Buchroo, Wathora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district where irrigation land was washed out by flood by the river (Shali Ganga). Sources said that the flood water entered several houses of the village. The flood water entered in their localities, forcing them to stay indoors.
Kashmir is witnessing heavy rains from yesterday, which wrecked havoc in the valley. Official sources said that the DDC Budgam Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, SDM Chadoora, Aziz Ahmad Rather and TehsilDar Chadoora Naseer Ahmad Para visited villages to assess the immediate reports and directed officials for cutting of illegal trees and removing encroachments in the area.
DDC and SDM also directed for immediate protection to bank sides to avert damage to locality. Meanwhile, hailstorm wrecked havoc in Chrar-e-Sharief, area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Sources said that the orchards spread over thousands of Kanals of land in Zaloosa, Nowhad, Cherwani, Dalwan, Tilsara, Rakhai, Hayatpora, Lolipora, Batpora, Kakawring suffered massive damage.
The flood like situation was also caused Baramulla areas including Tarzoo, Zaingeer, Pattan,Baramulla, Rafiabad and Bridge washed away in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district last night. Several villages are affected by bridge collapse on Ferozpora Nallah which connects almost 20 villages of Tangmarg area with national highway. According to locals, the flood waters entered in several villages of Pattan area, with that the electricity supply also affected.
Similarly, the Nallah (Balkoul) at Hamrey has also washed away orchards and many villages and disrupts the traffic movement on Naidkhai Hamray road which connects dozens of villages to Srinagar-Muzafarabad highway. The flood water came into many houses which forced people to rush out for safety said a local Javed Ahmad.
Meanwhile, police on Wednesday morning rescued a flock of 550 sheep and two shepherds who were trapped in a Doodganga naalah at Badipura village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam District. The flock was trapped due to the overnight heavy rainfall that created havoc in various parts of valley.
SHO Chadoora Mehboob Banday said that they received the information about the incident in morning following which a police party was rushed to the spot to rescue the flock as well the shepherd.
“Fire and emergency department also accompanied us to the spot and locals who were already on the spot extended their support to carry out rescue operation,” he said. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Budgam has said that a temporary bridge will be constructed at the Nallah. Meanwhile, four persons were injured after lightning struck them in Paribal village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday afternoon.
Reports said that the natural lightning hit Paribal village, leaving four persons injured who have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Wani son of Ab Rashid Wani, Javid Ahmad Wani son of Ab Rashid Wani, Masrat Begum, wife of Abdul Rasheed Wani and Tahira Begum wife of Manzoor Ahmad Wani, all the residents of Pushwara Naidkhai. Sources said that the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment where they have been referred to JVC Bemina for advanced treatment.
