Despite landslides, rain Kashmir highway through for one-way traffic

Srinagar: Despite landslides and rain, the national highway , connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for one-way traffic on Tuesday, official sources said.
However, two-way traffic will ply on Srinagar-Leh national highway while only one-way traffic will continue to ply on the historic 86-km-long Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region.
Sources said there were intermittent landslides at several places on the highway between Ramban and Ramsu on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. However, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, are clearing the landslides immediately and restoring traffic. There was also rain during the night and Met department has predicted wet weather during the next 24 hours.
Today traffic was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar, they said adding vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction. Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) had to cross Jakheni Udhampur between 0700 hrs to 1100 hrs, they said adding Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) between 1100 hrs to 1500 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after the deadline.
Traffic will ply from Shopian in south Kashmir to Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region on the historic Mughal road, which is seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu national highway. LMVs have to leave from 0500 hrs to 0900 hrs and HMVs from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs from Hirpora Shopian. No vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction and after the deadline.
Two-way traffic will ply on national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir, they said. However, in the morning traffic will ply from Minimarg to Srinagar. Later in the afternoon vehicles will ply from Sonamarg to Kargil on the highway.
