Srinagar: A Dawat-e-Iftaar was hosted by Northern Command at Badami Bagh Cantonment for the ‘Rozedaars’, civil dignitaries, uniformed community, media persons and representatives from all sections of the society. The event was attended by National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah Member Parliament and three time former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister.
Chief host Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Army Commander Northern Command along with Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, Chinar Corps Commander welcomed the guests.
The Maulvi leading the prayers explained about the true essence of observing ‘Roza’ to the gathering. Ramazan is the time to increase taqwa (Belief in Allah), which was a means to keep away ills and evils, inculcate self-control and it was a time for everyone to come forth and help the poor through Zakat and Sadaqah.
Speaking on the occasion, the army Commander extolled the virtues of the holy month of Ramazan and Iftaar. He said that it was the time for spiritual reflection, prayers and community engagement. He expressed his happiness on the presence of a group of special children from the local orphanage on the occasion. After thanking the esteemed guests for gracing the occasion, the Army Cdr prayed for peace and tranquillity in the whole of J&K and hoped that the youth of J&K become the vanguard of development activities in India.
After breaking the fast, the Rozedaars proceeded for Magharib prayer. The event was marked by divinity, bonhomie and universal brotherhood. Great synergy among all the polity, Security Forces, Civil Administration and Awaam was highlighted.
Over the holy month of Ramazan more than 100 Dawat-e-Iftaars have been organised across the Valley during which over 10,000 Rozedaars have graced the occasion. The Awaam Army connect was at its best throughout the period of Ramazan across the region. The underlying theme of compassion, tolerance and mutual respect through the bigger idea of humanity was resonant throughout the event and in all the other Dawat-e-Iftaars.
