New Delhi: On a day when the charge for Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was given to Amit Shah, who is largely credited for Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) magnificent win in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, BJP spokesperson Tajinder Singh Pal Bagga made a controversial statement giving fodder to the Opposition.
The BJP spokesperson who is known to make controversial statements, on Friday, was back in the headlines after he made a statement on Twitter warning “stone pelters in Kashmir and Bangladeshis to pack their bags” now that Shah has been made the Home Minister.
Bagga compared Shah to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, who was credited for unification of various princely states after India got freedom from British rule.
“Stone pelters in Kashmir, Bangladeshi Pack your Bag. India Got New Sardar Patel as Home Minister,” the BJP leader tweeted. Shah has made strong statements against the Bangladeshi immigrants during his campaign trail in West Bengal. On September 22, 2018, he infamously likened Bangladeshi immigrants to termites stating they will be struck off the electoral rolls while referring to the National Registry of Citizens (NRC).
He said the BJP government has identified prima facie nearly 40 lakh illegal infiltrators. “BJP sarkaar ek ek ghuspaithiye ko chun chun kar matdata suchi se hatane ka kaam karegi,” the then BJP president said while addressing a gathering at Sawai Madhopur district’s Gangapur in 2018.
Shah has often used the word ‘stone pelters’ while describing the dissenters in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.
Amit Shah, who contested 2019 general election from Gandhinagar constituency in Gujarat, defeated CJ Chavda of the Congress by a margin of over 5.5 lakh votes. Shah, known for his organisational skills, is credited for the BJP’s historic win in 2014 and 2019.
