Hyderabad/May,30 : Y S Jaganmohan Reddy Thursday became the second Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh since its bifurcation after he was administered the oath of office by Governor E S L Narasimhan at a ceremony at Vijaywada’s IGMC Stadium. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and DMK president M K Stalin were among the dignitaries who attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Preparations for the event took a hit after heavy rains lashed Vijayawada on Wednesday night. The showers left behind a grubby mess at IGMC Stadium, the venue for today’s ceremony. Besides the stadium grounds turning into a mushy mix of rainwater and soil, strong winds left the YSR Congress Party paraphernalia adorning the stands in disarray.
Elaborate security arrangements, with about 5,000 police personnel in deployment, have been made in Vijayawada city for the swearing-in ceremony, according to the Commissioner of Police Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.
While the stadium could hold about 30,000 people, LED screens were being arranged across the city for people to witness the event, he said.
