Jammu: Panic gripped Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch road after Army’s road opening party found a suspicious bag along road side at Kallar Chowk on Monday which was later blown up by the bomb disposal squad.
Police said that the ROP of Army was on patrol in the area when they found the bag and during close examination a bottle filled with liquid material and a polybag filled with some solid material was found by the ROP. It was found on NH-144A that connects Jammu with Rajouri and Poonch districts. The ROP flashed an alert and traffic on particular stretch was closed, officials said.
“Army’s bomb disposal squad launched its operation following SOP and after hour long exercise, the said suspected IED material was destroyed on the spot thereby averting any possible mishap,” they said. District Police Office Rajouri said that according to initial investigation there was ‘ no banned explosive material was present in the suspicious object found along highway in Rajouri.’
“It seems that some miscreant placed a suspicious object in a disintegrated form to give it the shape of an IED to create social disorder,” they said. Investigation, they said, is going on.
