Why West Bengal is not declared a disturbed territory: Geelani to PM Modi

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Thursday lashed out at Prime Minister Narender Modi for his ‘fresh bid’ to befool the Indian electorate on the one hand by describing the situation in West Bengal more volatile than that of Jammu and Kashmir and adding salt to the wounds of the people of Kashmir, on the other, by giving “Thrusted graveyard silence” the beautiful name of “peace”.
Geelani in a statement issued on Thursday asked Prime Minister why West Bengal is not declared a disturbed territory? Why it is not handed over to Indian military? Why POTA, AFSPA, PSA, ULA like draconian laws are not implemented and people of Bengal (God save them) get killed, maimed, incarcerated and the like as happens in Jammu and Kashmir as an in-alienated part of their miserable life.
Expressing his unwillingness to plead normalcy or fair situation in West Bengal, Geelani asked Indian intellectuals and people of conscience like Arun Dati Roy, Gotum Nawlakha, Tapan Bose etc along with the UNHRC, ICRC and Amnesty International to ascertain the grave violation of human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir and prevail upon Indian leadership not to hoodwink its people nor the international community by falsely proving Kashmir as a safe haven for human life.
Castigating Indian leadership for their inhuman approach and behavour meted out with the subjugated people of Kashmir, pro-freedom leader strongly condemned the adoption of military might to contain the thrusted “grave-yard” silence in the nook and corner of the state.
Blaming India, suffering from arrogance of military might and unleashing a reign of terror by frequently using all methods of oppression and repression, be it unabated killings, tarnishing the chastity of women as a war weapon, beating and incarcerating on flimsy grounds or political vendetta, Geelani proposed India to shun arrogance and desist comparing Jammu and Kashmir with any part of India which might have wider range of political consequences.
Reiterating Kashmir as an international issue brought forth by India on the tables of UN, Geelani also advised India not to play politics on this sensitive issue for its petty electoral gains.
Condemning the proposed ban on the student community of Jammu and Kashmir to get admission in educational institutions of Azad Kashmir, Geelani said although All Parties Hurriyat Conference is not in favour of any such temporary arrangements like potato and onion trade until final and permanent resolution of Kashmir dispute yet as a matter of right as declared by United Nations Human Rights charter where right to education has been accepted as a basic right.
Giving details of the ordeal faced by our student community in all the educational institutions of India at the hands of religious extremists, he said that it is a high risk for our student fraternity to get education in any part of India where they feel vulnerable to any untoward incident at any time.
Expressing his grave concern on the narrowing down the sphere of life in a cage like territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Geelani also castigated the Indian leadership for trampling the basic human rights such as right to get education, medical treatment, business, tourism and even right to perform religious obligation like Hajj by denying passport for the same purpose. He demanded an early intervention by United Nation Organizations to help resolve the sensitive Kashmir issue in the larger interests of the peace and progress of the whole South Asia.
