Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested a youth from the summer capital, Srinagar, for allegedly spreading sectarian hatred though social media.
A police spokesperson said that recently a video surfaced on social media platform which was promoting hatred against a particular sect thereby promoting feelings of animosity and hatred between different sections of the society.
“As such, legal proceedings were initiated after proper registration of case under relevant sections at Police Station Safakadal,” he said.
He said after strenuous efforts, police was able to track the accused, identified as Feroz Ahmed Nath, a resident of Palpora. “The accused has been taken into custody,” he said.
He said all sections of society have expressed their satisfaction over the prompt police action.
“Police has appealed people not to pay heed to the rumours and fake news and not to fall prey to the propaganda of such elements inimical to peace. Police is committed to take strict legal action against the rumour-mongers and any person spreading hatred among various sections of the society,” he added.
