Srinagar: State General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ashok Koul Tuesday left from Press Enclave Srinagar without government provided security personnel as a mark of protest.
Witnesses said Koul left the city centre in an auto-rickshaw. Koul before leaving the place said that he is surrendering his security as a mark of protest against the government for not providing security cover to the BJP workers.
He also led a protest in Srinagar’s Press enclave against the killing of BJP worker, Gul Muhammad Mir of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Koul demanded that the party workers be provided with adequate security so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
“It is unfortunate that our leaders and workers are being killed. We have decided to protest in press enclave Srinagar tomorrow to ask government for providing safety to BJP leaders and workers,” Koul said. He said that the killing of BJP leader in Anantnag has raised question mark over mechanism adopted in security of political leaders and workers in the State.
