Srinagar: Two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) workers were injured by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Wednesday.
Condemning the attack on her party workers, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said only barbarians would kill innocents and cause bloodshed during the holy month of Ramazan.
Official sources said that unidentified gunmen barged into a chemist shop and fired at two persons, identified as Irfan Ahmad and Muzafar Ahmad, in Zainapora in Shopian on Wednesday afternoon. “The duo, who work in the chemist shop, were critically injured in the attack,” they said.
The injured, who are affiliated with PDP, were immediately taken to a local hospital from where they were referred District Hospital Anantnag in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, they said the gunmen managed to escape from the spot after the attack, adding security forces were rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.
“Condemn the dastardly attack on PDP workers in Shopian. My heart goes out to these two bravehearts & I pray for their speedy recover. Only barbarians would kill innocents & cause bloodshed during the holy month of Ramzan. Their warped version of Islam has no place in our society,” Ms Mehbooba, who is former chief minister of J&K, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
