Srinagar: Former chief minister Jammu and Kashmir and Peoples Democratic Party chief has urged Government of India to announce ceasefire and halt in anti-militancy operations in the month of Ramadan.
Mehbooba addressing a presser in Srinagar, said, “I urge Government of India to announce a ceasefire and stop arrests, crackdowns and encounters in wake of the holy month of Ramadan. I urge militants also to stop attacks,” Mehbooba said.
She said that GoI has announced unilateral halt in operations last time and should follow same. “Modi usually says that he follows Vajpayee’s path. Announcing ceasefire will be the biggest proof of that,” she said.
She also criticized Central government for trying to break the economic strength of Kashmir. “Trucks are being stopped and in Jammu goons have been let loose to harass truckers. Police is being used as well by those who have communal agendas to harass the valley based truckers,” she said.
