Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a person along with arms and ammunition who was reportedly missing from Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
On a credible input, Handwara police along with forces intercepted a person at a checkpoint near Chowgal and took him into custody, police spokesman said in a statement issued on Friday, adding that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
The arrested person has been identified as Shafat Yousuf Malik, son of Mohammad Yousuf Malik of Thune, Kangan of Ganderbal.
It is learnt that he was provided with arms and ammunition by a militant group and was on way to join Hizbul Mujahideen, police said, adding that as such, he has been restrained from joining the outfit.
A case under FIR number 87/2019 under relevant sections of law has been registered at P/S Handwara, police said, adding that further investigation into the matter is going on.
