Budgam: Repulsing back to National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah, the state Congress chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir Friday said that Congress can never ever give mileage or walkover to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) anywhere.
Earlier on Thursday, Omar questioned Congress’ election campaign in Jammu Kashmir saying it was inexplicable that the opposition party conceded a “walkover” to the BJP as far as optics were concerned.
“The Congress was in with a fighting chance in 4 of the 6 seats and in 3 of these the BJP was the main opponent. It’s inexplicable how the BJP was simply given a walkover as far as the optics of the campaign were concerned,” Omar had said in a series of tweets.
Local news gathering agency KNS quoted Mir as saying that, “I think Omar is frustrated. Let them speak over Jammu constituencies. Did Omar or his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah go to Jammu to ask their cadre to support the Congress candidate? If they (NC) had decided to support Congress then why didn’t they address their cadre in this regard,” he said.
He added in Jammu, whatever the requirement was, that has been fulfilled. “Congress leaders like Captain Amrinder, Ghulam Nabi Azad also addressed rallies. Even Azad addressed 32 rallies. The only programme that couldn’t take place was Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s visit as coincidently, he had to submit his nomination papers on the same day he was scheduled to address a gathering in Jammu,” he said.
Mir said the allegations levelled by Omar that BJP was given walkover is baseless. “Congress will never ever give mileage or walkover to BJP. If anyone is standing against BJP that is only Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
