Shopian: Four days ahead of last phase of Lok Sabha polls in South Kashmir constituency, Hizbul Mujahideen posters appeared in several villages of Shopian and Pulwama district, threatening to ‘kill those who will cast vote’.
On Thursday, people in several villages woke up to find posters pasted on walls and electric polls, threatening of dire consequences for participating in polling on May 6.
“We have information that Army might force you to cast votes. But everyone should understand that they need to make a choice. Those who cast vote on the polling day in Shopian will be killed,” posters reads.
The unverified poster claiming to be from Hizbul Mujahideen outfit has also asked parents for not sending their wards to Army Goodwill School. Reports of such posters were received from Pulwama as well.
Quoting police sources local news gathering agency KNO reported that they have received information about threatening posters from certain villages and are looking into the things. “You cannot say, in these type of cases, they are genuine or not. We will look into the matter,” police said.
The militant outfit has also threatened to kill those who work with Army or Police as informers. “Our commander Riyaz Naikoo has told you time and again to desist from Indian parties but some people don’t listen.
The time is over now, we will act against them and put their videos in public,” the poster reads. The militancy hotbed Shopian and Pulwama will go to polls on May 6. Election Commission for the first time has divided the polls for Anantnag parliamentary constituency in three phases.
Anantnag and Kulgam district have voted and the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian will be going to polls in the last phase. ECI said that the decision to divide the polls for one seat was taken after taking into consideration the security situation.
