Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) while condemning what they termed as ‘worst policy of suppression and repression, perpetrated by the forces’ against the younger generation in particular and the common people in general, expressed its deep concern over the deteriorating political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
The amalgam in a statement issued on Thursday regretted the brazen denial of political space and destroying the pillars of democracy with respect to human rights guaranteed by the United Nations Organization.
“Freedom of expression, right to get education, right to live at liberty and adopt any religion and right to travel have remained a distant dream for a resident of Jammu and Kashmir which has any link with the ongoing movement for right to self-determination,” the statement reads.
Spokesman said that widespread arrests of youth at Pulwama and Shopian in the garb of conducting parliamentary election process and creating a war like atmosphere during the cordon and search operations, at night hours and in the broad-day-light has rendered Jammu and Kashmir a hell like place in the sub-continent.
“Opening the flood gates of prisons in Jammu and Kashmir and incarceration of the leaders and activists of Hurriyat Conference in addition to the young students in the nook and corner of the state is the worst type of state terrorism, which has been adapted to punish the people of Kashmir for their legitimate demand of right to self-determination,” he said.
Castigating these ‘repressive’ measures to test the patience of the freedom loving people of Kashmir, Hurriyat (G) expressed its grave concern over the worsening health conditions of all the prisoners of conscience languishing in and outside state jails. “Denial of basic amenities as per jail manual to the detenues and inhuman attitude of the jail authorities meted out with them is a grave violation of prisoners rights,” said Hurriyat (G). Hurriyat (G) urged all the human rights organizations to take serious cognizance the plight of detenues of Jammu and Kashmir and use its diplomatic services to pressurize India for and early resolutions of Kashmir issue.
