Jammu: Bar Association of Jammu on Monday elected Senior Advocate Abhinav Sharma as its new president.
Sharma has earlier also served as BAJ president (2015-2017) and was later replaced by sitting BAJ President Mr B S Slathia.
He was elected as new president of the lawyers by securing 999 votes, the results of which were declared here late night on Sunday.
The new BAJ president was on February 24 this year here in presence of national president Amit Shah joined the BJP.
He defeated his nearest rival Vikram Sharma, who polled 751 votes followed by A K Sawhney with (221) votes and Shakti Gupta polled five votes.
Four votes were declared invalid.
Meanwhile, Monish Chopra with 701 votes lost the post of vice president to Rohit Bhagat by a margin of 101 votes, who polled 802 while Rakeshwar Singh Durswal polled (480) votes.
Abhishek Wazir was elected as General Secretary as he as declared winner with (1556 ) votes against Advocate Anil Khajuria, who polled (425) votes and elected by a margin of 1131 votes.
For the post of Joint Secretary four candidates had filed their nomination papers and out of them Pradeep Majotra was polled highest (935) votes and he defeated his nearest rival Snigdha Shekhar by 499 votes followed by Bhavishya (285) votes and Varun Kotwal (324) votes.
However, Shushant Samnotra was elected as Treasurer with (909) votes as he outclassed Nikash Sharma (690) votes and Sahil Bavoria (380) votes.
Senior advocate B S Slathia acted as Returning Officer.
