Srinagar: About a week before third and final phase of Lok Sabha elections in Anantnag parliamentary constituency, about two dozen youth were arrested in the twin south Kashmir districts of Pulwama and Shopian for their alleged role in stone pelting.
Official sources on Tuesday said that security forces conducted raids at several places in the twin districts, where the last and third phase election in Pulwama and Shopian will be held on May 6 in Anantnag constituency.
“During these raids in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, about two dozen youth were arrested for their alleged role in stone pelting,” they said.
They said the youth were being lodged in local police stations and were being questioned for their alleged role in stone pelting.
The first phase in Anantnag district recorded 13.6 per cent polling on April 23 while the second phase which was held in Kulgam district witnessed a voter turnout of 10.3 per cent.
