Historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar reopens

Srinagar: Historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar reopened for devotees after remaining closed as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstration on Tuesday, when Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a general strike to protest against alleged ill-treatment to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and other separatist leaders, businessmen and others by National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate.
All gates of the historic worship place, stronghold of chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, which were closed yesterday are open now. Security forces who were deployed at main gate and a bullet proof vehicle parked to prevent people from entering the masjid have been withdrawn.
Large number of security force and state police personnel deployed in the Jamia market and around the masjid to prevent people from holding any demonstration have also been withdrawn.
Shops and business establishments are open and traffic was also plying normally in the down town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) areas.
