Bijbehara: Mehbooba Mufti’s Assembly Segment of Bijbehara witnessed more or less boycott on Tuesday. Out of total 93516 voters (47067 males, 46222 females and 227 service voters, only 1,767 votes were polled. The election for Anantang Parliament seat for 3rd phase was conducted in Anantnag on Tuesday while the other phase for the same seat will be held on April 29 in Kulgam and May 6 in Shopian.
The candidates for the Anantnag Parliamentary seat in the fray are Hasnain Masoodi of Jammu Kashmir National Conference, Sofi Yousuf of Bhartiya Janta Party, Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Indian National Congress, Mehbooba Mufti of Jammu Kashmir People’s Democratic Party, Nisar Ahmad Wani of Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party, Ch. Zaffar Ali of Jammu Kashmir People’s Conference, Sanjay Kumar Dhar of Manav Adhikar Party, Surinder Singh of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) and Imtiyaz Ahmad Rather, Ridwana Sanam, Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, Zubair Masoodi, Shams Khwaja, Ali Mohammad Wani, Ghulam Mohammad Wani, Kyasir Ahmed Sheikh, Manzoor Ahmad Khan and Mirza Sajad Hussain Beigh, all independents.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti cast her vote at PHE Division Bijbehara while her brother Tasaduq Mufti didn’t vote. The mother and one of the daughters of Mehbooba Mufti exercised their franchise. After casting her vote, Mehbooba Mufti told Reporters that her supporters and workers are her strength.
Though brisk polling were reported from native area of Congress candidate Ghulam Ahmed Mir, but the areas falling the Assembly segment of Mehbooba Mufti witnessed total boycott. An official said that no votes were polled in multiple areas of Bijbehara Assembly segment including Wofzen, Mehand, Kanilwan, Sirhama, Ghatalipora, Khiram and other parts.
