Srinagar: Post government of India’s decision to close the cross Line of Control trade, traders affiliated with the business took to streets on Monday against the decision.
The protesting traders claimed that their lives have been put to jeopardy by the decision. Protesters assembled in Paratap Park and raised slogans against the government.
Haji Mohammed Shafi, General Secretary of LoC traders union said that families, drivers, labourers are dependent on this trade and have been badly hit with the decision. “We immediately demand resumption of the trade which was suspended on 19th April by Home ministry of India.” Shafi said.
Union home ministry of India last week suspended the Cross LoC trade, saying that the route is being used by “unscrupulous and anti national elements” for sneaking hawala money, drugs and weapons from Pakistan. Protesting traders demanded immediate revocation of orders so that they have a sigh of relief.
