Srinagar/ April,18 : A complete shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq the Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman and Mohammad Yasin Malik the incarcerated JKLF Chairman against the lok sabha elections on Thursday hit normal life on the day of polling in Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts of Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency
Reports said all the business establishments, schools and shops remained closed in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir while traffic was off the roads in both urban and rural areas of Kashmir valley. Heavy deployment of the police and paramilitary forces has been made at all the sensitive places across the Srinagar-Budgam-Ganderbal parliamentary constituency going to polls today. Police and paramilitary contingents are keeping a vigil over the movement of the people to maintain peace and order in Srinagar city and major towns of Kashmir valley. Barring Government vehicles ferrying polling official the movement of the civil traffic is no where visible on the busy roads in Srinagar city and major towns of Kashmir valley. As already reported the mobile internet services were suspended from midnight on Thursday almost eight hours before the commencement of polling in three central Kashmir districts.
