Jammu: The family members of prisoners serving sentences in Central Jail Srinagar on Tuesday held protest demonstration and asked the authorities to not turn it into another ‘Guantanamo’.
Reports said families of the inmates assembled at the press enclave Srinagar and claimed that their kith and kin have been subjected to trauma for lack of access to the jail. “Since the incident last week they are not allowing us to meet our loved ones,” protesters said.
They said that the jail authorities are neither allowing them to meet the inmates as guaranteed by law nor they are giving them any information as to what is happening inside. “We have no clue about their well being, they are alive or dead,” they said.
The protesting families demanded a case be registered against the prison Superintendent of Police (SP) and demanded that he should be transferred immediately. “Also cases registered against inmates over April 5 incident, should be withdrawn,” they demanded, adding that they should not be shifted to jails outside state.
