Bandipora: Protests were held in Bandipora over the rape of a girl from Aragam village in Bandipora district of northern Kashmir who committed suicide on April 13 after being allegedly raped by her father.
Eyewitnesses said locals including women rallied in Bandipora market Monday and marched through various markets while raising slogans and holding placards reading slogans like ‘justice for the victim and stern punishment to the culprit’. Pertinently, a girl from Aragam village of Bandipora district committed suicide on Saturday after being allegedly raped by her father.
According to the victim’s sister, her father had been raping the victim for years, but she was unable to reveal it to anyone for fear of getting killed. She also alleged that her uncle also used to rape his daughter, seeing which her father had started doing the same with his daughter.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Bandipora, Rahul Malik had said they have registered a case and arrested the accused. “The investigations in the case are underway,” Malik had said. The incident has shocked the valley, with people demanding stern action against the accused
