Dynasty Politics: Commitments V/S contradictions

Dynasty politics is a non issue in South Asian countries particularly India and Pakistan but Prime Minister Narendra Modi despite finding dozens of people marching to parliament and different state assemblies via the dynasty politics route even within the BJP ranks is trying to draw political mileages from the issue only during elections and interestingly Modi has mostly allied with the parties known for propagating dynasty politics in several states of the country during last five years of BJP rule at the centre. People in Jammu still remember the fiery speeches of Narendra Modi against dynasty politics during poll campaigning in 2014 Lok Sabha and assembly elections at different place in Jammu regions but he was the man who did not show any hesitation in the crowning of Mehbooba Mufti as Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir after the death of her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in 2015 and the induction of Mehbooba’s brother Tasaduq Mufti as Minister with a key portfolio in the Mehbooba cabinet through backdoor last year. Had Narendra Modi little bit of reservations against the rise of dynasty politics in any state including Jammu and Kashmir, he would have opposed Mehbooba on nomination of her brother Tasaduq Mufti as Member Legislative Council (MLC) to facilitate his induction into the state cabinet through backdoor. Be it backdoor or front door the induction of any son or daughter of a former or sitting Member of Parliamentarian or state legislature can’t be opposed as the nomination to the upper house of parliament and state legislature is mostly used for accommodation and adjustment of the kins and friends of parliamentarians and legislatures.
Had Modi government been concerned about the rise of dynasty politics it would have moved legislations for amendments and modifications in the procedure for election of people to the upper houses of parliament and state assemblies. Absolutely surprising it was that Mufti Government of which Modi’s BJP was an ally nominated people of different backgrounds for the legislative council seats which are as per law reserved for the people of eminence from the fields of art, literature, science and several other disciplines. Interestingly BJP too nominated its members on such legislative council seats which are reserved for the people of eminence from the fields of art, literature, science and several other disciplines. So Prime Minister raising the issue of dynasty politics and clearing decks for alliances with parties doing their bit in increasing the trends and tendencies of dynasty politics is a crude joke.
