Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that PDP is the only party which has the agenda for resolution of Kashmir issue through dialogue but regretted that Modi didn’t follow the footprints of BJP’s first Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Kashmir policy vis-à-vis the dialogue with Pakistan and talks with separatists in Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to reporters after addressing an election rally in Wathoora village of Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Mehbooba said, “PDP is the only party which has an agenda for resolution of Kashmir issue and proved its commitment to work on the agenda during the lifetime of its founder late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.”
Claiming the credit for opening of Srinagar-Muzafarabad highway, cross LoC trade, implementation of ceasefire on borders, dialogue with Pakistan and talks with Hurriyat during the reign of Vajpayee led NDA government at the centre and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP-Congress coalition government in the state, Mehbooba said, “Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had the same idea about which Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is talking nowadays about dialogue over Kashmir but keeping in view BJP’s hostile Kashmir policy and attacks on the freedom of Muslims in the rest of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the time has proved that Narendra Modi didn’t pursue the footprints of first BJP Prime Minister of India late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.”
Questioning that if Modi could not use his thumping majority in parliament for resolution of Kashmir issue through dialogue with Pakistan and talks with separatists in Jammu and Kashmir what can he do now, PDP chief said, “It would be unwise to hope that Modi if voted to power would pursue the path of reconciliation with Pakistan and the people of Kashmir as even Muslims in India want Modi government to go.”
