JeI chief, JeH VP among 30 Kashmiri prisoners shifted to Haryana

Srinagar: In an unprecedented move, the prison’s department of Jammu and Kashmir have shifted at least 30 Kashmiri inmates including Ameer-e-Jamaat-e-Islami Dr Hameed Fayaz and Jamiat-e-Ahlihadith vice president Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri from Kotbalwal prison Jammu to Haryana prison, top officials in the prisons department revealed on Wednesday.
The development was first leaked on the social media by the son of Ameer-e-Jamaat. Sources said that apart from Dr Fayaz and JeH vice president, 28 other Kashmiris were shifted to Haryana Jail. Majority of those who have been shifted to Haryana prison are JeI activists and religious leaders who have been booked under public safety act (PSA).
A top official of prison’s department disclosed that some prisoners have been shifted from Jammu prison and it was a routine exercise. “I don’t remember the number but yes, some have been shifted to outside,” he said and wished not to be named.
Meanwhile the families of prisoners who have been shifted alleged that the shifting of prisoners from Jammu to Haryana was against the Geneva Convention and the High Court ruling that stresses on lodging a prisoner closer to this home.
“There are clear cut directions that a prisoners has to be lodged in a prison closer to his home. But in J&K, these rules are being thrown out of the window. Even there is a supreme court guideline that prisoners be kept in jails in their home districts,” said a family member, whose close relative has been shifted to Haryana prison.
