Srinagar: Terming BJP’s promise of eliminate Article 370 of the Constitution in its Lok Sabha election manifesto as a contempt of court, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and former MLC G N Monga today appealed the apex court and Election Commission of India (ECI) to take strict against the BJP.
Addressing an impressive election rally in Sumbal area of Bandipora district, he said, “Article 370 and Article 35A are sub-judice and how can the BJP promise in its election manifesto to revoke it. It is clear case of contempt of court and I appeal to the Apex Court to take stringent action against the BJP leadership. By taking like this, they (BJP) are undermining the authority of Supreme Court of India. The ECI should also look into this issue and take appropriate action against the BJP.”
The Congress leader said that the BJP was trying to divert the attention of people from its failure. “To prevent poverty and unemployment from becoming real election issues, the BJP and its Prime Minister are trying to rake up all dead issues. The BJP came to power in 2014 by making big promises but failed to fulfil them. It promised ‘ache din’ (good days), but its anti-people decisions have wreaked havoc. People are feeling cheated as instead of ‘ache din’ the BJP gave ‘bure din’ (bad days) to people. The way the BJP leaders are making new false promises shows that remaining in power is BJP’s only objective,” he said.
However, the Congress leader said, the BJP leadership has understood that people have lost faith in the BJP, that is why ruling party leaders are luring people. “But voters have made up their mind to oust the anti-people and communal government, and after the upcoming General Elections there will be a strong Congress government at the Center as people of the country have understood the bluff of the BJP now,” Monga said.
“Despite the BJP government at the Centre and in the state from March 2015 to June 2018, J&K has lagged behind in development. Forget new development works, the schemes started by the previous Congress government have been stalled,” the Congress leader said.
He said the BJP is showing its true colours by raking up controversial issues at the time of elections. “Their arguments on Article 370 and Article 35A are weak and won’t work. Not only people of Kashmir region but people of Jammu and Ladakh regions too will resist any move by the BJP to revoke Article 370 or Article 35-A tooth and nail as it is equally beneficial for the people of all the regions of the state,” Monga asserted.
