Kathua: To spread electoral literacy among Persons with Disability (PwD), special awareness programme on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine was Friday held here at the office of District Child Protection Unit.
The programme was organized by the District Social Welfare Department under the supervision of Nodal Officer for SVEEP, Amar Jyoti Raina.
The campaign is aimed at sensitizing voters regarding voting process and casting ethical vote, Jyoti said, adding that various initiatives have been taken by the ECI to make elections accessible to voters by ensuring Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) viz. facility of ramp, shade, drinking water and wheelchairs etc at the polling stations.
Later, a pledge was also administered to the participants for spreading awareness regarding maximum voters’ turnout in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Similar awareness camps were also organized at Police Training School, Kathua and Chenab Textile Mill.
District Social Welfare Officer Abdul Rahim was also present on the occasion.
