Class work comes to halt as teachers remain busy with electoral trainings

Baramulla: Ahead of elections in the state, the class work in various educational institutions has come to a halt as the teachers are put on to election duty.
Several government-run-educational institutions are facing acute shortage of teaching staff, due to which the students complain that no class work is going on the schools, they are enrolled.
Kamran Ahmad, a student of class 10th said that they have been suffering for a week as most of the teachers have been attending election trainings almost on regular basis. “The government should suspend the class work of schools instead of wasting the time of students,” Ahmad said.
A group of students from government run schools complain the same that they have just one or two teachers who regularly attend the schools for class work and rest are put on election duties.
The students question that why the government put teachers on election duties infact, the government should have employed officials from other departments for the job. “We just attend a maximum of two classes in a day while rest of our day is going waste in the School,” they said.
Almost every educational institution in Kashmir division is suffering ahead of the elections, and it will likely continue till the end of the Lok Sabha polls.
As per the reports, teachers who are put on election duty are aghast over the same. One of the teachers from Pattan area of Baramulla district said that they have to attend the election duty in Uri area of which is nearly 50 kilometers away from the school they are posted.
Another teacher posted in Boniyar area of Baramulla district said that he has to go for election duty to Sopore town, more than 35 kilometers away, since wasting the time of both students as well of the teachers. “The government should have put election duty of teachers in the near nearby areas so that we could reach the schools as well,” he said.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla, Gh. Mohammed Lone said that they try their best to continue the class work in schools. “The electoral trainings are going in so, the teaching and non teaching staff is put on the training,” Lone said.
CEO, Kupwara, Shafiq Nabi said that they try their best to manage the class work of the students, so that they may not suffer.“We have distributed the training session in phase wise and put the teachers training as near as we could,” Nabi said.
Joint Director School Education, Suriya Bano refused to talk over the issues. “You should contact the Director School education to have comments in this regard,” she said. Despite several attempts Director School Education Kashmir, Mohammed Younis Malik could not be contacted.
