Pulwama /April, 1: Four militants were on Monday morning killed during a gunfight in Lassipora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after a cordon and search operation was launched in the area on specific information about the presence of militants in the area. Three army men and a constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police were also injured in the gunfight.
Police in a statement said that as cordoned and search operation was launched on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Lassipora area of Pulwama district, the hiding militants fire upon a search party during the searches and the forces on retaliating the fire got engaged into a gunfight with militants during which four militants killed. ‘Three army men and a police constable were also injured in the gunfight’, reads the statement.
Saying that the bodies of the slain militants were recovered from the gunfight site, the police in its statement said ‘the identities and affiliations of the slain militants are being ascertained’.
Claiming that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the gunfight site, Police in its statement that it has registered a case and urged people has not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
