Education buried under snow in Kupwara

Srinagar: About 100 educational institutions across district Kupwara are witnessing a thick attendance or absence of teachers as well students due to the accumulation of snow in several areas, facing difficulties to reach schools.
Reports said that, educational institutions falling in far-off places of this border district Kupwara are witnessing very thick attendance due to sheer negligence of administration who have utterly failed to take steps to facilitate the teachers and students since the reopening of schools after three months of winter break.
Locals rued official apathy and claimed the negligence of authorities despite extending winter vacations across the valley failed to clear the pathways and roads leading to educational institutions.
Official sources said, over five feet of snow accumulated in the areas including Badnambal, Jumgand, Sadhna, Machil, Kumkadi, Hengankoote, Hafrada, Nowgam sector Handwara and Kumkadi witnessed almost but to date, no efforts were made to clear the snow, thereby affected the normal attendance in educational institutions after reopening winter break.
Some institutions are still locked while as some are witnessing thick attendance of students as well teachers, including Primary, Upper Primary, Middle Schools, High Schools and Higher Secondary schools across the district.
While as students studying in Kupwara who are living in Keran and Karnah sector are the worst sufferers since the vehicular movement on the roads is closed due to snow accumulation for over two months now.
Sources said that higher secondary school Karihama, which is only four kilometers away from Kupwara Headquarters has a narrow Pedestrian way for students which has forced the students to stay back home since the area lies within dense forests.
A student, Aijaz Ahmad enrolled at Karihama institution said that, usually it takes 10-15 minutes reach here but the accumulated snow has made it tough for us since the are is congested in dense forests.
To which Chief Education Officer, Kupwara Shafi Nabi war, said that, I have discussed it with the Deputy Commissioner For necessary action, who has assured to sort out the problem at the earnest.
“Yes many of our schools in far off places across district Kupwara have witnessed thick attendance be it students or teachers due to snow accumulation but they can’t come out of their respective areas if we would arrange classes for them at other places, Once the weather improves road plying towards their institutions will also open” Shafi Nabi war, said.
However he said that, there will be some additional classes for those who miss these school days, but there will be no relief in annual syllabus for the students.
