Baramulla: Two youth were injured on Monday during the clashes that erupted between youth and government forces on Monday following a cordon-and-search operation at Tantrapora, Palhallan village of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Official sources said that after receiving inputs about the presence of some militants in the village, the joint team of Army’s 29 RR, Special Operation Group of Police (SOG) launched the cordon and started door to door searches.
Groups of youth hit the streets in Tantrapora, Palhallan and staged a protest when government forces were carrying out house-to-house searches in the area, witnesses said. The forces retaliated with tear gas shelling, triggering off clashes which were going on when this report was filed.
During the clashes, two youth sustained injuries who were taken to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Pattan confirmed pellet injuries of two local boys, saying that both injured youth are stable and are undergoing treatment.
