With mainstream political parties giving political asylum to retired police officers, bureaucrats and political defectors having dismal record in electoral politics the youth in Kashmir are fast loosing interest in joining mainstream parties for the purposes of public service and public welfare. Allowing retired police officers, bureaucrats and political defectors to come over the heads of genuine political workers establishing connections with the people on the ground is ultimately becoming the cause of increasing defections in the mainstream political parties and growing alienation of people with the mainstream parties at the grass roots. Dozens of retired bureaucrats recently choose to quit the parties who offered them berths in the legislative council after loosing contests in the previous assembly elections. Taking berth in the upper house of the assembly in the name of one party even after badly loosing the assembly elections and joining the other party having the prospects of returning to power now speaks volumes about the increasing trends of political dishonesty the retired cops, bureaucrats and political defectors are setting in the fastly changing mainstream political scenario of the state. Fortunately a good number of retired bureaucrats including the likes of Mohammad Ashraf former Director General Tourism and Mohammad Saleem Baig another former Director General Tourism have set a healthy trend by writing in the columns of the edit pages of news papers and undoubtedly they have become sources of inspiration for young writers and scholars of the contemporary Kashmir society.
Mainstream politicians particularly the likes of Abdullahs’ and Muftis’ are to blamed for choosing to be slaves of the successive central governments and not the masters of their own destinies. Today they don’t own their loyal political workers working for their parties for last several decades but they own retired cops and bureaucrats who have worked on their whims and wishes during their stints in police and civil administration.
A good number of retired bureaucrats are taking coaching classes for civil service aspirants and youth interested in other careers. So while some retired cops and bureaucrats are on hunt for lucrative jobs in mainstream politics, their contemporaries have preferred to take up the job of nurturing the talent of youth to enable them to find placements in lucrative services and careers. Don’t be surprised that some of the retired bureaucrats are now invited for guest lectuers by management institutes of great repute and several universities in other states of the country. Finally the mainstream politicians finding themselves irrelevant in the current political scenario are finding themselves discredited, hurted and humiliated by Delhi more due to their own deeds and less because of the directionless Kashmir policy of the successive central governments. Mainstream politicians particularly the likes of Abdullahs’ and Muftis’ are to blamed for choosing to be slaves of the successive central governments and not the masters of their own destinies.
