The recent bloodbath, that happened on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Pulwama district of South Kashmir on February 14 and which left dozens of Indian paramilitary personnel dead is indeed unfortunate. Our conscience does not allow us to carry out suicide attacks! However, one needs to have a rational look at such incidents in the backdrop of large scale killing of Kashmiris, especially youth by the state forces over the years which by and large go unnoticed by the jingoistic national media.
The frequent killing of Kashmiri boys as if for the sport to gain brownie points by the politicians of India should not have been allowed for so long without expecting a response. Now is the moment of truth. Politicians should pay for the blood of both poor Kashmiris and poor military personnel they have pitted against each other while enjoying power away from this mayhem. They should contemplate sincerely over the merits and demerits of their policies which have wrought havoc to the countless families across length and breadth of this region.
They will have to come up with a blueprint for a permanent solution to this conflict and that is the least they can do to recompense for their sins. They will have to keep aside all the yearnings for luxury at the expense of the blood of innocents for the time being and show an element of sincerely at least till Kashmir issue is resolved and peace restored. It’s high time they put their brains together and go through the dusty records of history in order to address the root cause. This would be a favour to humanity at large.
