Jammu : A team of RTO office Jammu headed by RTO Jammu Dhananter Singh, accompanied by ARTO Jammu Shafqat Majeed, along with Motor Vehicle Inspectors conducted a week long checking drive.
The team checked trucks, buses, mini buses, auto rickshaws, taxi, sumo, tempo, etc.
A total fine of Rs 39000/ was recovered from violators under various sections of Motor Vehicles Act.
Special emphasis was laid on passenger vehicles like tempo, sumo, etc indulging in overcharging from stranded passengers. The taxi operators were warned of strict action by Motor Vehicles Department if found involved in overcharging from any passenger especially stranded passengers travelling to valley and other parts of the state.
Besides, checking squad also laid nakas at Nagrota, BC Road, Amphalla, Janipur, Bikram Chowk, Kunjwani where about more than 300 vehicles were checked and 59 vehicles were challaned/ compounded for overcharging and for indulging in violations of Motor Vehicles Act/Rules. One truck bearing registration number JK03F6951 was seized for plying on national highway without vehicle documents.
Moreover, 260 Auto Rickshaws (3-wheelers) were checked, out of which 39 were booked for transporting passengers on exorbitant flat rates i.e. without fare meter.
