Civilian killed, 31 others injured in Jammu grenade explosion

Jammu: A civilian from Uttrakhand state of India was killed while as 31 others sustained injuries, three of them critical after a grenade was lobbed at the busy bus stand of Jammu on Thursday.
Interestingly, the accused was arrested just within three hours of the incident after police shared Close Circuit Television set grabs of a suspect.
Reports said a grenade was lobbed at the Jammu bus stand which exploded with a bang creating panic in the area. The injured, according to witnesses, were immediately removed to the hospital where one identified as Muhammad Shahid son of Intezar, a resident of Haridwar, Uttrakhand.
Police launched a massive search for the accused and claimed that after successful scrutiny of the CCTV footages the accused was nabbed.
Addressing press conference at Jammu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) said that the grenade was lobbed from outside of the stand and rolled towards the bus. “The injured have been shifted to GMC Jammu,” he said.
He said that soon after the incident a parallel teams were constituted to probe the case. He said statements of eye witnesses were recorded and search was launched. “We checked the CCTV footages and shared grabs a suspect with all the police stations explaining the nature of the dress worn by the suspect,” the IG said.
He said that a naka party at Nagrota tool plaza apprehended one suspect who was later identified as Yaseen Javaid Bhat son of Javaid Ahmed Bhat, of Khanpora, Dachin, Kulgam.
“During the interrogation, he accepted the crime and revealed that he was tasked to lob a grenade by Hizbul Mujahideen commander for Kulgam district Farooq Ahmed Bhat alias Umar,” the IGP said. “Yaseen had reached Jammu today morning and was planning to flee back”, he added. Meanwhile,
Governor Satya Pal Malik condemned the grenade attack at the Bus Stand in Jammu city. In a message, Governor has expressed deep shock and anguish on the attack at Jammu Bus Stand in which a person was killedand several others were injured. He has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and also wished speedy recovery to those injured. Governor has directed the Administration to provide best medical assistance to the injured in the attack and called upon all the concerned agencies to ensure that those responsible for this dreadful act are brought to justice and law and order is maintained in the State. Governor announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs. 20,000 each to those injured in the accident.
Advisor to Governor, K K Sharma, strongly condemned the blast at Bus Stand Jammu in which several people got injured and one civilian succumbed to his injuries. The Advisor while expressing solidarity with the family of the person who was killed in the blast said these types of heinous crimes are a blot on humanity and human values.He also prayed for early recovery to the injured persons.
The other two Advisors to Governor, Khursheed Ganai and K Skandan Thursday visited Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu to inquire about the health of those injured in the blast that took place at bus stand here Thursday. The Advisors interacted with the injured persons undergoing treatment at the hospital. The Advisors directed GMC authorities to provide best possible medical assistance to the injured. They also directed the district administration to provide requisite help and relief to the attendants of the injured. Meanwhile, the Advisors appreciated the Doctors for their prompt attention and expressed solidarity with the family of the person who died in the blast. They also prayed for early recovery to the injured persons and assured them all cooperation from the administration.\ Deputy Commission, Jammu Ramesh Kumar, Principal GMC Jammu Sunanda Raina, Medical Superintendent GMCH Jammu Dara Singh and other concerned were present on the occasion.
The other two Advisors to Governor, K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmed Ganai have condemned the grenade attack at Bus Stand Jammu in which one person lost his life and several other got injured. The Advisors while expressing solidarity with the family of the person who was killed in the blast prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. They also prayed for early recovery to the persons injured in the grenade blast.
