Jammu: Director Horticulture Jammu, Rakesh Kumar Srangal, Friday conducted an extensive visit of Kathua and Samba to inspect various departmental nurseries in the districts.
The Director inspected government fruit plant nurseries in Billawar Nehal Pur, Ludhwal and Vijaypur.
He was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer Kathua, C. L. Sharma, Chief Horticulture Officer Samba, Sushil Kumar, District Level Subject Matter Specialist, Sanjeev Kumar MCC Kathua and Horticulture Development officers of the Districts, Technical Section and information wing of the Directorate.
The Director advised the concerned to explore the possibilities of producing medicinal plants and integrate it with the cultivation of fruit crops in the departmental nurseries.
He stressed on the production of quality plant material in the departmental nurseries with adoption of modern techniques of propagation and ensuring minimum loss of germplasm in the nurseries.
He also advised the staff for making of nursery inventories on modern lines and display on nursery boards for first-hand visual assessment of existing infrastructure in the nurseries.
He also enjoined upon the officers to enhance the revenue of the nurseries and achieve the revenue targets already allotted.
Later, the director also inspected the citrus orchard of Ram Paul established under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) in Hiranagar Block and Vishali Nursery Barwal.
