With National Conference (NC) supporting the Jammu Bandh call that triggered mob violence against Kashmiris’ in Jammu city on Friday last week and PDP rejecting demand of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for “actionable evidence” on Pulwama attack, the two largest mainstream political parties of the state National Conference (NC) and PDP have choosen to keep their windows open for BJP ahead of ensuing Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state. Though the announcement of support to Jammu Bandh call by National Conference Jammu Provincial President Devender Singh Rana was unobjectionable but Rana’s silence over the mob attacks on Kashmiris spoke volumes about the double standards and double speak of National Conference and it’s leaders.
Mere joint statements to show commonality on concerns over attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of the country won’t work but both PDP and National Conference will have to take both the central and the state governments head on over attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu city and other parts of the country as people of Kashmir are politically conscious enough to understand that both NC and PDP tend to be too much trickish in their responses to the mob attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu just to keep their windows open for BJP ahead of ensuing Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state.
Though National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in a joint statement appealed for peace and immediate halt to attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu city and other parts of the country but neither National Conference (NC) nor PDP bothered to take out a single peace march in winter capital Jammu to press hard for the security and safety of Kashmiris including State government employees working with the move offices including civil secretariat who due to fear of attack from violent mobs are staying away from their duties in Jammu. Instead of taking the governor’s administration head on over the safety and security of Kashmiris including the state government employees in Jammu city, the PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in an attempt to appease BJP rejected the demand of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for actionable evidence over Pulwama attack despite knowing that even as the Chief Minister of the state she had no institutional or administrative right to poke her nose into the controversies over bilateral security issues between India and Pakistan.
Poking her nose into the India-Pakistan bilateral security matters is by all standards of understand abilities an attempt of Mehbooba Mufti the PDP President and former Chief Minister to divert the attention of people from rising tolerance against Kashmiri in Jammu city which she still calls a symbol of “Kashmiri tat”, the corner stone of which is religious brotherhood.
