Srinagar/Feb, 8: The efforts to reach to an avalanche site near Banihal tunnel where a police police post is buried are slowing down due to accumulation of snow and strong winds blowing in the Banihal area.
Police on it twitter handle wrote “Rescue teams are trying their best to reach the site. Strong wind and accumulation of snow on the path are making it difficult albiet the teams are nearby the site. ”
As already reported ten policemen have gone missing after an avalanche hit a police post near Banihal tunnel Thursday this week.The missing people comprise six policemen, two fire service personnel and two prisoners.
Meanwhile, the strategic 300 km-long road continues closed for the third consecutive day on Friday due to heavy snowfall and landslides.
Traffic police officials overseeing the movement of traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway said “no traffic was allowed on the highway on Friday due to avalanches at several places in Banihal – Ramban area and landslides in the Ramsoo-Ramban area.
