2 militants killed in Khonmoh gunfight, identity of slain militants not ascertained yet :Police

Srinagar/Jan, 26: Two militants were Saturday morning killed in a gunfight in Khonmoh area in the outskirts of Srinagar after government forces launch a cordon and search operation in the area.

Confirming the killing of two militants in the gunfight Pice in a statement issued after the gunfight said “based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Khonmoh area of District Srinagar, a cordon and search operation was launched Saturday morning jointly by Police and sleuths of army  in the area, adding that” as the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.”

Confirming that iIn the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the gunfight site the police in its statement however said  “the identities and affiliations of slain militants are being ascertained” .

Claiming that the incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the gunfight site the police in its statement said” a  case has been registered and initial investigation is underway “.

Police in the statement asked people  not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials and urged the locals to cooperate  till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
