Srinagar/ Jan,18: Police on Friday said that a man from Lolab area of frontier district Kupwara planning to join militancy was arrested with a grenade during checking at a naka .
A police statement issued Friday morning said Kupwara police on a credible inputs arrested a man of Lolab area of frontier district Kupwara and recovered incriminating materials including ammunition from his possession and the detained Lolab resident has been identified as Mohd Aslam Beigh, son of Nazir Ahmad Beigh of Maidanpora Lolab.
The statement said the Lolab resident was detained at a checkpoint and a grenade besides incriminating material was seized from his possession.
“The individual has been taken into custody and preliminary investigation suggests that the individual was planning to join a militant outfit, and along with other militants was planning an attack in Kupwara. Initial investigation, he said, revealed that he was motivated to turn to militancy through social media by entities based in Pakistan.A case FIR No. 6/2019 under relevant sections has been registered in P/S Kupwara in this matter, the statement said.
